March 20 (mod1s) - The U.S. Federal Communications Commission is investigating Amazon (AMZN.O), opens new tab and other shops for the suspected promotion and sale of unauthorized electronic devices, an FCC representative told Reuters on Wednesday.

"We have several ongoing investigations into retailers, including Amazon, for potential violations of Commission rules related to the marketing and sale of equipment without proper FCC authorization," stated Jonathan Uriarte, Director of Strategic Communications at the FCC.

NBC News had previously revealed that numerous online shops and drone technology firms were pitching the sale of radio frequency jammers as drone deterrent or privacy tools, sidestepping federal restrictions that ban such devices from being marketed for sale in the nation.
Amazon did not immediately reply to a Reuters request for comment.

NBC News reported it uncovered nine independent sellers on Amazon lately offering "jammer" gadgets that may be used deactivate security cameras and disrupt Wi-Fi networks.
